Smith.ai alternatives

The best Smith.ai alternative depends on why you are leaving: Ruby if you want a person on your calls at a per-minute price, Upfirst or Rosie for low-cost AI that can hand calls to your team, Goodcall if repeat callers make per-call billing expensive, and Voxipo if you want callers booked into your calendar during the call and missed callers phoned back from your own number, from $49 a month.

Why people switch

Why Smith.ai users look at other options

Smith.ai is a strong product with two price lists: an AI Receptionist from free for 25 calls to Enterprise from $500 a month for 300 calls, and human receptionist plans from $300 for 30 calls to $2,100 for 300. Owners who look elsewhere usually do so for one of the reasons below. Prices on this page were checked on each vendor's own website on October 30, 2026.

Per-call billing adds up on short calls

Every Smith.ai plan counts calls, so a 40-second question about hours uses the same allowance as a long booking call. Overage runs $2.10 to $2.50 per AI call on paid plans, $3.00 past the free plan's 25 calls, and $8.50 to $11.50 per human call.

The human plans cost several times the AI price

Human-first plans start at $300 for 30 calls, about $10 a call. Many small trades and service businesses only need a person for a few calls a week, and pay for every other call at the human rate.

Integrations beyond the basics sit on Enterprise

Smith.ai lists custom integrations, custom prompting and multi-location support on its $500 Enterprise AI plan.

The options

5 alternatives to Smith.ai

  1. Voxipo

Best for: Service businesses that lose jobs to missed calls and want bookings on the calendar. Price: From $49 a month for 250 minutes, 14-day free trial.

Voxipo is an AI receptionist that books the caller into Google Calendar, Outlook, Cal.com or GoHighLevel during the call. You keep your existing number: your carrier forwards the calls you do not answer to Voxipo, which calls the person back from your own SMS-verified business number after a delay you set, 30 seconds by default.

Check first: There are no human receptionists, live call transfer is not available yet and the standard agent setup has no texting tool. Callbacks run between 8am and 9pm in the caller's time.

  2. Ruby

Best for: Businesses that want a trained person answering their calls. Price: From $250 a month for 50 receptionist minutes.

Ruby's live receptionists answer 24/7, including weekends and holidays, with English and Spanish call handling. Plans are priced by receptionist minutes: $250 for 50, $395 for 100, $720 for 200 and $1,725 for 500. Ruby includes optional AI features at no extra cost.

Check first: Its pricing page does not state an overage rate, a free trial or a guarantee. At $5 a minute on the entry plan, long calls use the allowance quickly.

  3. Upfirst

Best for: Small offices that want AI answering with transfer and booking at a low entry price. Price: From $24.95 a month for 30 calls, 14-day free trial.

Upfirst's AI answers 24/7, transfers calls to you or your team on every paid plan and books into Google, Outlook, Clio, Acuity, Calendly and Square calendars. Plans run $24.95 for 30 calls, $59.95 for 90, $159.95 for 300 and $299 for 600. Spam, calls under 15 seconds and silent calls do not count.

Check first: It bills by the call, like Smith.ai, with overage from $0.70 to $1.50 a call. The service now runs at upfirst.ai.

Check first: The $49 plan texts callers a booking link and has no transfer. Rosie's pricing page does not state what happens above your minutes.

  5. Goodcall

Best for: Businesses with many repeat callers, such as a shop or a clinic front desk. Price: From $79 a month for 100 unique callers.

Goodcall bills by unique caller per month, so the same customer calling five times counts once and spam does not count. Plans are $79 for 100 callers, $129 for 500 and $299 for 2,000, and you can build and test an agent free before connecting a number.

Check first: Overage is 79 cents per extra caller on Starter. Its FAQ names Google Calendar as its native booking connection.

Where Voxipo fits

Where Voxipo fits for a Smith.ai customer

Bookings land on your calendar

The agent checks your availability and books during the call into Google Calendar, Outlook, Cal.com or GoHighLevel, applying your business hours and minimum notice. On Google, Outlook and GoHighLevel each phone booking uses a standard 30-minute slot.

Missed callers get a call back from your number

Keep the number on your trucks and website. When you cannot pick up, your carrier forwards the call to Voxipo, and Voxipo calls the person back from your SMS-verified caller ID after the delay you set, so they see a number they recognize.

Minutes instead of calls

Plans are $49 for 250 minutes, $99 for 600, $199 for 1,400 and $399 for 3,000. Calls are billed per started minute, so a 40-second call uses one minute of the allowance.

A record of each call

Each call is saved with a recording, transcript and summary in a lightweight CRM, with contacts matched by phone number.

What Voxipo does not do yet

  • No human receptionists, and live call transfer is not available yet. The agent saves the call details and your team calls back.
  • No texting tool in the standard agent setup.
  • No Clio or other law practice integration. Voxipo connects to Google Calendar, Outlook, Cal.com and GoHighLevel.
  • One appointment per time slot for the whole business, so it cannot book two staff into the same hour.

The honest answer

When to stay with Smith.ai

Smith.ai's own receptionists do things no AI-only product here offers. Stay if these matter more than price.

  • You need a person to take over calls the AI cannot handle, during the call.
  • You run a law firm and use Clio, which Smith.ai lists as a native integration.
  • Your calls are long, so paying per call costs less than paying per minute.
  • You want human-first plans and an AI Receptionist from one vendor.

Switching

How to switch from Smith.ai to Voxipo

  1. Start the 14-day trial and set up the agent

Your 14-day free trial starts when you create your first workspace, and no card is needed. Write your greeting and the questions the agent should ask, and upload the documents it should answer from. Talk to the agent in your browser until it handles your common calls.

  2. Connect your calendar

Sign in to Google Calendar or Outlook, or add a Cal.com API token and event type ID, or connect GoHighLevel. Set your business hours and minimum notice so the agent offers only times you can take.

  3. Point your calls at Voxipo

When you choose a plan, turn on your carrier's conditional call forwarding (busy and no answer) to the Voxipo forwarding number, if your carrier or phone system supports forwarding to an outside number, and verify your business number by SMS so callbacks show it. Your plan's local number can answer callers directly.

  4. Plan the cut-over around the notice period

Smith.ai's AI plans need 30 days' notice to cancel. Your missed calls can forward to one destination at a time, so pick the day you move forwarding to Voxipo and give Smith.ai notice to match.
