What do missed calls cost your business?
A missed call costs you the job it would have booked plus any ad money you paid for it. Enter a typical week of calls below to see the monthly figure for your HVAC, plumbing or electrical business.
Your numbers
Each month
$7,280in jobs at risk from missed calls
| Missed calls | 52 |
|---|---|
| Jobs those calls would have booked | 21 |
| Revenue at risk | $7,280 |
| Local Services Ads spend on missed calls (upper bound) | $780 |
This assumes a missed caller would have booked at the same rate as the callers you answer. Some missed callers ring back or leave a message, so treat the figure as a ceiling and compare it with your own records.
Method
How the calculator works
Missed calls per month, times your booking rate, times your average job value. The ad line multiplies the missed calls that came from Local Services Ads by your cost per lead.
The example values are placeholders for a small trades business. Replace each one with a figure from your call log, your job software and your Local Services Ads dashboard. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Booking rate matters most. A plumber who books half of answered calls loses twice as much per missed call as one who books a quarter. Use your own rate from the last few months.
How missed-call callbacks workQuestions
Missed call costs: FAQs
How do I work out what a missed call costs?
Multiply your missed calls per month by the share of answered calls that book a job, then by your average job value. That gives the revenue those calls would have brought in if they booked like the calls you answer. Add any ad spend you paid for those calls.
Where do I find my missed call numbers?
Your phone system or carrier keeps a call log with unanswered calls. If you run Google Local Services Ads, the leads list shows each call with its status. A single typical week is enough for a first estimate.
Why is the Local Services Ads figure an upper bound?
Google charges for a missed call only when it comes in during your business hours and the caller stays on the line for more than 20 seconds. The calculator multiplies all missed Local Services Ads calls by your cost per lead, so your actual charge is likely lower. Check the charged leads in your Local Services Ads account for the real figure.
How does Voxipo handle missed calls?
Voxipo answers calls that reach it with an AI agent you configure. For your existing number, your carrier forwards unanswered calls to Voxipo, and Voxipo calls the person back from your SMS-verified business number after a delay you set, 30 seconds by default. Callbacks follow the federal calling window of 8am to 9pm in the caller's time.
Does a callback recover every missed call?
No. A caller who hangs up before your carrier forwards the call never reaches Voxipo, calls missed outside the 8am to 9pm calling window get no callback, and a callback can be delayed or dropped when call capacity is full. Use the calculator result as the size of the problem, then measure how many callbacks book in your own call records.
