Ontario callers

Why Ontario businesses miss calls

An Ontario owner is often on a roof in Mississauga, in a boiler room in Hamilton or in a client's unit in a Toronto condo tower. The phone rings while both hands are busy. Voxipo gives your business an agent that answers calls to your Voxipo number, asks the questions you wrote and books a time, and calls back people whose missed calls your carrier forwards.

Winter changes the pattern. After a snowfall, a snow-removal or property-maintenance crew can field a rush of calls from the same morning, and the people who call are comparing several companies. A frozen pipe or a furnace failure brings emergency calls at hours that do not match a nine-to-five office.

Voxipo does not decide what counts as an emergency, and it does not dispatch a crew. The agent records the caller's details and your approved wording, saves the call and leaves the next step to your team.

  • Snow removal and winter property care, when calls cluster after a storm.
  • Heating, plumbing and electrical work when cold weather breaks something.
  • Property managers and condo boards fielding after-hours maintenance calls.
  • Clinics and dental offices that cannot answer during treatment.

Area codes

Ontario area codes and time zones

Ontario has many area codes, and the number your customers know is probably tied to one of them. You do not have to change it. Search the number marketplace by area code if you want a new line, and remember that availability by area code is not guaranteed. Several of these regions also have newer overlay codes, listed in the table from the Canadian Numbering Administrator's area code map.

Most of the province is on Eastern time, which matches the Eastern default Voxipo sets when you choose Canada. Central time applies west of Thunder Bay, including Kenora, Dryden and Rainy River. Voxipo works out the caller's time zone from the caller's number, so the callback window follows the caller even if your workspace runs on Eastern.

Property teams

Condo and property teams in the GTA

Property management is a strong fit in the Toronto area, where one small team may look after many units. Residents call about a leak, a broken fob or a noisy neighbour. The agent can take the unit number, the problem and a callback number, and save a summary your manager reads in the morning.

The agent does not judge urgency, send a technician or give an arrival time. Those decisions stay with your staff. If a resident reports something that is a safety matter, your approved wording tells the agent what to say, and your team makes the call from there.

For the full picture of how this works for managers, see the property teams page.

Steps

Setting up in Ontario

  1. 01

    Choose Canada at signup

Your workspace starts with Canadian number search and Eastern time as its default. Your 14-day free trial starts when you create your first workspace, and no card is needed. During the trial you build the agent and talk to it in the browser. Connecting a phone number for live calls and callbacks needs a paid plan.

  2. 02

    Write your agent

Add your service area, hours and the details your office needs, such as the unit number or the type of heating system.

  3. 03

    Forward unanswered calls

Ask your carrier for conditional forwarding on busy and no answer, so your 416, 905 or 613 number stays the same. Forward to your Voxipo answering number and the agent answers live, or forward to the missed-call number and Voxipo declines the call and calls the caller back. One forwarding number cannot do both.

  4. 04

    Connect a calendar

Link Google Calendar, Outlook, Cal.com or GoHighLevel. The agent books into open times on calls dialed to your Voxipo number.

  5. 05

    Review the first calls

Read the transcripts and summaries, then change the agent's instructions where it needs clearer wording.

Callbacks

Callbacks across Ontario time zones

When the carrier forwards a missed call to Voxipo, the platform declines the call and schedules a callback from your own verified number after the delay you set. The delay runs from 0 to 3,600 seconds, and the default is 30.

Callbacks go to callers in Canada and the US, between 8am and 9pm in the caller's local time. Voxipo places one callback, and a call missed outside that window gets none. Nobody can call back a hidden number, and callers from outside the US and Canada need a manual follow-up from your team. When lines are busy, a callback can be delayed or missed.

Language

French-speaking callers in Ontario

Ontario has francophone communities in Ottawa, Sudbury and other regions. Voxipo makes no French-language claim, and the home-services templates cover English and Spanish only. Test the agent with realistic calls in the browser before you decide how to route French-speaking callers.

Billing is in US dollars, so your Ontario card issuer converts each charge to Canadian dollars. Call recordings hold personal information, so read your privacy obligations. This page is not legal advice, and Voxipo makes no data-residency or compliance promise here. Ask [email protected] if you need to know more.

Health practices in Ontario, such as clinics and dental offices, should also look at the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) before recording patient calls.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my Toronto 416 or 647 number?

Yes. Ask your carrier to set conditional forwarding for busy and no answer to your Voxipo missed-call number. Your customers keep dialling the number they already know, and Voxipo calls missed callers back from it.

Is the workspace set to Eastern time?

Yes. Choosing Canada at onboarding sets Eastern time as the default. Voxipo works out each caller's time zone from their number for the callback window.

Does it work for property managers in the GTA?

The agent can answer resident calls, take unit details and save a summary. Your staff decide urgency and dispatch. Voxipo books one appointment per time slot for the whole business.

Does Voxipo handle French calls in Ontario?

Voxipo makes no French-language claim. The home-services templates are English and Spanish only, so test the agent before you rely on it for French.

What does it cost for an Ontario business?

Plans start at $49 a month in US dollars, and your card issuer converts the charge to Canadian dollars. Your 14-day free trial starts when you create your first workspace, and no card is needed. During the trial you build the agent and talk to it in the browser. Connecting a phone number for live calls and callbacks needs a paid plan.
