Verified caller ID

Verified caller ID means an outbound calling service shows your business's own number to the people it calls, after you prove that you control that number, usually with a code sent by SMS or a call.

Explained

Verified caller ID, explained

When a service places calls for you, it can either show its own number or yours. Showing yours makes the call recognizable, but services should not let anyone display a number they do not own. Verification closes that gap by sending a one-time code to the number and asking you to enter it.

Once the number is verified, calls placed for you can present it as the caller ID. Customers see the number they already know from your website, invoices or their call history, which makes a return call less likely to be mistaken for a sales call from an unknown number.

Verified caller ID is separate from call forwarding. Forwarding moves inbound calls; caller ID controls what people see on outbound calls.
